Looking through someone else's eyes part three

Here's the next part.

Part three: Over the river and through the woods
To grandfathers house we go.

This is a lot longer, enjoy.

(It was kind of weird waking up to go to Kate’s grandfathers house. When I woke up, I found myself curled up next to mark who was still asleep. It surprised me a little but I quietly got out of bed with out disturbing him. I had gotten ready and was going down the stairs when I heard someone pacing while on the phone. I thought it was Mark who had finally gotten up, so I went to go say good morning. Suddenly, I was grabbed from behind and towed back up the stairs. I would have screamed but whoever it was had clamped their hand down on my mouth. Perfect now I never would get the chance to ask my questions to Kate’s grandpa. Oh no I was not going to miss my chance at finding out about Kate, I started to struggle when we got around the corner. I was trying to aim for his stomach or try to stomp on his foot. Who ever it was, wrapped its arm around my waist and whispered: “It’s me, Mark.” I immediately stopped struggling and turned around and found that he was all wet and only had some jeans on with a towel around his neck. “What was that all about?” I whispered. He shushed me when I tried to say anything else. “Your mom hasn’t left yet. We have to stay up here until she’s off the phone and has gone to work.” And then I shut up to hear who Kate’s mom was talking to. “Yeah, yeah, I’ll be down there in a minute. Could you please stop shouting, I’ve got a huge hangover.” She paused to listen to someone on the other line. “Yes, I’ve been taking good care of him. And I think he is getting more protective over my daughter. I can’t say that I blame him, he probably is head over heels for her.” She paused again. “Don’t worry, I don’t mind if you take her or not. At least I will be able to start bringing my dates home again.” I was done listening; I didn’t want to carve this into Kate’s memory. But I forgot how close Mark had been, so I bumped into him and started falling backwards. Mark grabbed me and threw me into the wall. “Ouch!” I said a little too loud, and I knew I blew our cover right there. Mark and I were quiet as we listened. She said nothing until we heard someone on speaker. “What was that?” We stood shocked for a while, until we heard footsteps coming up to where we were. “I don’t know but I’m going to find out.” And then out of the blue, Mark was in front of me holding both my arms to the wall. Mark whispered to me: “Just act cool and don’t say anything. Me and my dad are going to get us out of this alive.” And without another word he kissed me for the second time. I thought I was going to die. He was good. And I found myself getting into the kiss. This shocked him; with a low gasp he also got into it. Before I knew it I was gasping for air, he started to kiss my neck. I shuddered and then opened my eyes to see Kate’s mother standing with a smile on her face. I blushed and pushed him away, when I looked at him he was smiling too. “What’s going on?” “ Oh nothing. It’s just your son is making out with my daughter. No big deal.” “What???? Put him on the phone.” He immediately went to the phone and started talking to his dad. “Hey dad how’s it going?” “Well I was just telling Kate’s mother that she needed to get down to the office when we heard a loud noise coming from upstairs.” He clicked the phone out of speaker and started talking while walking into my room and closing my door. We waited there until he came out with the phone off. “Mrs. Stephanie, my dad will explain everything that’s happened at the office.” She pursed her lips but nodded and went down the stairs without another word. We listened until she was out the door and the sound of her car fading away. I sighed and was glad we were alone. “Get a shirt on we are leaving in five minutes. So you better hurry up.” I turned around and started down the stairs, he yelled: “Can’t I have breakfast at least?” I yelled back: “Not if you don’t hurry up.” I sat down at the table and started reading the newspaper. He can down in two minutes and ran right to the cupboard. “What do you want to eat for breakfast? We have cereal, and Pop tarts, and some eggs and milk. What do you want?” “Just hand me a Pop tart and let’s get going.” He gave me a disapproving look when he handed me my breakfast, he chugged some milk and ate some cereal out of the box. When we were both done with our breakfasts, we started walking down the street. When we were walking I saw some hills and a forest and saw barely near the edge of the forest was a river. I started giggling. “Can I hear this joke of yours?” He looked a little amused by what ever I was thinking. “I was just thinking of that one song.” He raised an eyebrow at me. “You know that one song, um.. Over the river and through the woods to grandmothers house we go.” When I said that he burst into a roar of laughter. I glared at him; I didn’t think it was that funny. “I’m not laughing at you. It’s just a little ironic, because your grandmother died two years ago and your grandfather lives by himself near an old river and forest. You should have sung that two years ago.” He started laughing again; I just rolled my eyes and kept walking. We got there about noon. And Kate’s grandfather looked a whole lot different than I expected. He wasn’t as old as my grandpa, he looked like he was in his late 40s and just a little silver was coming in his hair. He seemed thrilled that we came, and hugged us both even before we even got into the house. After a while it was getting late and I knew that we had to go soon. Mark was upstairs looking at photos and I was downstairs with Kate’s grandpa. “Um grandpa? Can I talk to you for a minute?” He looked a little confused when I said that but he nodded and went to the living room where I was. “What is it sweetie? Is your mother acting up again? You know you can always come and live with me.” He wrapped his arm around me and looked at me with worried eyes. “I want to know some of my families story.” He relaxed when I said that and had a big smile on his face like I’d told him he won the lottery. “Which story do you want to hear?” “I want to hear what happened to my mom. Why she’s always drinking and yelling.” His smile immediately faded and mumbled “I knew this was coming.” And he started shaking his head. “Please grandpa? I really want to know.” He looked at me, I think he was trying to find something and I think he found it. He sighed and began the tale. “It all started when you were born. Your mother didn’t know what to do because even though you were very small, your mom and dad were poor. So, your mother got a job and started bringing you with her. Her boss told her she couldn’t bring you along and she couldn’t let your dad bring you to work, so you stayed with me until your mom came for you and took you home. Everything was going perfectly, until your dad died. He had been in the city and wasn’t paying much attention and neither was the driver.” He looked at me again and continued. “He was buried the next day, your mother was heartbroken. She decided to leave you with us since she had to work double time. You stayed with us all night and all day. We took care of you we treated you like a princess, until one night while you had just gone to bed. Your mother came in screaming; she said she was taking you back home so you could be with her. She ran up the stairs and grabbed you out of bed and carried you home. The next couple of weeks passed by and we heard from a neighbor that every time you came out of the house you had tears rolling down your face and bruises down your arms and legs. Sometimes your mother would allow you to come spend the night with us. And we treated you like a princess. I guess your mom was mad that your dad died and you were the only one she had left of him. You look so much like him; she’s probably taking the frustration out on you. I think she feels that it was your fault.” When he was done I was just looking at him with shock. Why would Kate’s mom do that? Was she mad at Kate? I hoped that if my dad died that my mom wouldn’t blame me. Before I could say anything, Mark came down the stairs almost running down them. “Your mom just got home!!!!! She came home early and called me to see where we were!!!” I was shocked I couldn’t say anything for a few minutes. “What did you tell her?” “I told her we went out for a walk and we would be back in a few minutes. We have to go now!!!!” I hugged Kate’s grandpa and said, “Thank you.” Ran out the door with Mark at my side. It was kind of hard keeping up with Mark cause he was a good runner. Mark grabbed my hand and started towing me to the house. But before we could get near the house I tripped. Man, I forgot that I was not very good at running. When I fell some guys noticed and came over to wear I was. I got up and saw who it was, some jocks from the football team. There was the leader and the rest of his posy. “Hey are you ok shrimp?” I knew who that was; it was there leader, Derek. The rest of them joined in with the name-calling. When they started picking up rocks, I covered my face. Just hoping that it wouldn’t hurt as much with me seeing what they were doing. But I didn’t feel anything but I heard some guys grunting and saying ouch. When I opened my eyes, there was someone in front of me. Mark. Mark was catching the rocks and throwing them back. Derek and his posy gave up with the rocks and started a fistfight. I had to say, Mark was a good fighter. Kate was sure lucky. He dodged their punches and gave some of his own. It wasn’t until I heard someone other than the other boys that I decided that me and Mark needed to go. I grabbed Mark’s arm and started tugging. “Mark, we need to go before someone calls the police and you go to jail.” Mark looked at me and then at the boys, he sighed started to tug me toward Kate’s house. The jocks were right behind us and I new I was slowing him down. When I thought of letting go of his hand and letting him run ahead of me. But when I was loosening my grip, he held on tighter. “Mark, I’m slowing you down. Let go and tell my mom to lock the door as soon as I come in.” But I don’t think he was listening, he went behind me and started pushing me toward the house. “Hey!!!!” “Look you have two choices, One, I push you to the house or Two, I stop and try to fight them off until you get some help.” I looked at him in shock, but he just kept pushing. They sounded like they were closer than before. I saw Kate’s mom at the door and started running with all my might. Mark was right beside me running up the porch steps. “What’s going on here?” We pushed Kate’s mom through the door, and locked it behind me. “HEY!!! WILL SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT’S GOING ON?” Mark decided to guard the door, just in case. “Listen Mr.… mom, a bunch of jocks are chasing us. We need to hide.” Kate’s mother just rolled her eyes and went over to the window. “Well, finally.” She looked at us. “The police have arrived and are taking your so called “Jocks” away.” Mark relaxed and went over to where I was standing. Kate’s mom went over to me and hugged me before Mark could. “Girl, you scared me. I didn’t know you were running from a bunch of jocks.” I was a little surprised by this; I always thought Kate’s mom didn’t care. Well, I guess I learned my lesson. I went upstairs to Kate’s room and was going to go to bed, but something caught my eye. In the corner there was something shining. I pulled off the sheet that covered it and there it was. It was the mirror. The exact same mirror from my room. But there was no one in the mirror. I ran straight to Kate’s bed and hid under the covers, if I didn’t tell Kate to look in the mirror at the same time I did, we would be stuck like this forever.)
